LED light bars are a stylish and useful addition to an RC car or truck.

When out on the trail at night or roaming around the backyard bashing in the shadows of the moonlight, an LED light bar can come in handy for any RC. Some light bars can be powered from the receiver while some are best powered from a separate battery. Either way, you will experience a whole new driving experience with additional light provided by a LED light bar. Here at RC Patrol, we chose to turn to Pro-Line Racing for our LED needs…Why? Keep reading in order to find out about their wicked light bar assortment in which we used on our new Bronco build because I’m sure that you’ll enjoy!

Up Close and Personal with the Pro-Line Racing Super Bright 4″ and 2″ light bars.

For the Radio Control Patrol Bronco build, we first decided on mounting the light bars to the Overland Roof Rack, another new item from Pro-Line Racing. This rack is well designed and has a new style compared to the traditional racks that you will see on the market. The Overland Roof Rack has a number of slots on the base plate and comes with the necessary hardware needed to mount the light bars to it. When mounted to the roof rack, the bars look awesome. We chose to mount the 4″ in the front and, then, we mounted the 2″ in the back with the supplied brackets. All that you need to mount the light bars comes with the Overland Roof Rack from Pro-Line Racing, offering a variety of custom mounting possibilities.

The 4″ light bar fits nice and snug under to top bar of the roof rack. In case of roll-overs, this bar will protect the casing of the light bar perfectly, which is what you want.

The 2″ light bar is mounted with custom brackets that give it a streamlined profile when attached to the roof rack although we feel that this light bar would look just as good on the front bumper. We were thinking about adding some red transparency film to the 2″ light bar due to it being in the rear of the rack in order to simulate a third brake light. Stay tuned for a post on this process.

The receiver plugs are most certainly a nice addition to the light bars from Pro-Line Racing. In addition this makes for an easy installation with no soldering required. Yes indeed!

The 4″ light bar looks so sweet tucked away on the Overland Roof Rack. We can’t wait to get this bad boy mounted to the body and, then, out on the trail!

Here is a shot of the 2″ light bar from Pro-Line Racing mounted to the Overland Roof Rack using the supplied hardware.

Let there be light!

After mounting the lights, I decided to do a test to see how bright they are. One light was powered from the receiver while one uses a 3s 800mah battery. However, I did notice that the 3s lipo powered light seemed to shine through a lot further than the 6V powered light that was connected to the receiver. 6V is plenty enough light though, so we may just use the receiver to power the lights on both rigs in the end. Due to the bright, crisp light, the rig is looking good.

Here, you can see the 4″ light bar powered by the 3s lipo battery. Although it might be difficult to tell from the photo just how bright it is, you can get a good idea.

The 2″ light bar is as bright as can be as well. I placed it this way just for testing although the light will be facing the rear when the rig is done.

Using the supplied brackets to the roof of the Cherokee Body from Pro-Line Racing, I then mounted this light on the Sketchbox. This light is powered from the receiver and, furthermore, is getting 6V via a BEC. There are a few different brackets you can use for a custom install on almost any type of RC. Pro-Line Racing did a good job with this product, and we are most certainly satisfied with its quality as you can see.

The Conclusion

When placed side by side, you can barely tell the difference between the two lights. The light bar on the right side of the photo is brighter as a result of the 11.1 V over the 6V power. Ultimately, the trail will tell the true story of how these lights look in the dark. Yes…there will be updates to this post soon!

Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed… and now, Have a wonderful day.
